It connects the airport to Lake Saimaa whick offers a waterway connection to the cities of the Finnish Lakeland: Imatra, Joensuu, Kuopio, Lappeenranta, Mikkeli, Savonlinna and Varkaus. Vuoksi River flows from Saimaa to Lake Ladoga in Russia. Saimaa Canal connects Saimaa with the Gulf of Finland. Kuopio Airport is also home of the Finnish Air Force’s Karelian Air Command and the Fighter Squadron 31. At Kuopio Airport passengers can find car rental agency if they want to rent a car. In summer, the Lake Terminal will function as a support centre for boating, paddling, bicycling, fishing and other summer activities. In winter, the focus will be on snowmobile and ski trips. The piers serve chartered cruises, water bus traffic, rental boating, and taxi flights by hydroplane.
